Hearing energetic rhythms by drums and cymbals, we know there is a lion dance from several blocks away.\u00a0 \u00a0Lion dance being one of the\u00a0signature<\/strong>\u00a0performances at Chinese New Year means to bring good luck and happiness. \u00a0Now that Chinese New Year is just days away, are you ready to enjoy the festive music and performance everywhere on the street?<\/p>

There is a saying in Chinese that a minute on stage takes ten years of hard work off stage.\u00a0 It applies to lion dance performers as well.\u00a0 For a start, the lion dance costumes covering two performers are much heavier than we think \u2013 the head alone weighs about the same as a bag of rice! \u00a0As the performer in the front dances with the head and front limbs whereas the one at the back with the back and hind legs, it takes much effort for the\u00a0duo<\/strong>\u00a0to coordinate well as one lion body.\u00a0<\/p>

Often, the lion dance performers are practitioners of martial arts.\u00a0 Sometimes, the performer in the front is lifted by his partner, who even steps or leaps on the poles.\u00a0 In addition to the\u00a0acrobatic<\/strong>\u00a0part, the performers usually\u00a0imitate<\/strong>\u00a0the appearance and actions of mythical creatures as such, like shaking the body and\u00a0kowtowing<\/strong>, not to mention blinking their eyes!<\/p>
