To promote a better understanding of our nation, Hong Kong Education City is organising the ‘National Identity (NI) Mobile App Design Competition 2024’ from October 2024 to March 2025, offering a multitude of opportunities for students to:

  • Explore innovative technology and integrate it with national elements, thereby experiencing the development of our nation.
  • Deepen their understanding of the nation, cultivate a national concept and foster a stronger sense of national identity.
  • Promote collaboration among peers and related objectives by innovative means, encouraging a deeper understanding on the close relationship between the Mainland and Hong Kong.

Entry requirements

  1. The competition is divided into the following three levels of entry:
    • Primary: P4-P6;
    • Junior Secondary: S1-S3; and
    • Senior Secondary: S4-S6
  2. Participants can compete individually or in teams, with a maximum of 4 members.
  3. Team members can be from the same school or from schools under the same sponsoring body (but must participate in the same level of entry).
  4. Participating teams must be recommended by their school teachers, and there is no limit on the number of teams or submissions per school.
  5. All submitted works must be original creations.

How to register

  • All registrations must be submitted by schools. Once submitted, the entries cannot be modified or re-submitted.
  • For registration with more than 30 teams or members from different schools, please register by submitting a paper registration form.
  • The registration deadline is 2 December 2024, before 5 pm.
  • Participating schools must upload the competition entry through the provided link from 2 December 2024 to 3 January 2025, before 5 pm.
  • The date and time recorded on the system will be the official submission time. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Themes

  • Participating teams can design the content of their app by looking back on 75 years national development and achievements (for example, History and Nature, Sports and Arts, Cultural Heritage, Technology and Aerospace, Values and Customs, etc) of the country.

Submission requirements

  • Preliminary Round
    Submissions must be in the form of a presentation (POWERPOINT) (format can be PPT, PPTX or PDF), and the content must include (but not limited to):
    o Cover page (title of work, theme, school name and names of team members)
    o Concept and inspiration behind the work
    o Target audience
    o Screenshots/concept images and introduction of the work
    o Instructions for use and/or demonstration of the work
    o How the work enhances users’ sense of national identity
  • Final Round
    Shortlisted teams must attend an online 15-minute interview on 15 February 2025.

Judging Criteria​

  • The judges will evaluate the submissions based on criteria such as creativity, content, presentation, and practicality.

Awards​

All participants will be awarded a participant certificate. 

Preliminary Round

  • In each division, 10 submissions will receive the ‘Outstanding Award’ and advance to the final round.
  • All awards will be presented at the award ceremony.
  • All award winners must attend the award ceremony to receive their awards.

Final Round

  • In each division, Champion, First Runner-up, Second Runner-up and a number of Merit will be awarded.
  • ‘The Most Innovative Award’, ‘The Most Profound Content Award’ and ‘The Best Presentation Award’ will also be available in each division. The list of winners will be announced at the award ceremony.
  • The gold award winners from each division will be invited to share their award acceptance speech and product introduction on stage.

School Award

  • Based on the participation rate of the schools, ‘Active Participation Award’ will be awarded.
