To promote a better understanding of our nation, Hong Kong Education City is organising the National Identity (NI) Mobile App Design Competition 2025/26 from October 2025 to March 2026, offering a multitude of opportunities for students to:

  • Explore innovative technology and integrate it with national elements, thereby experiencing the development of our nation.
  • Deepen their understanding of the nation, cultivate a national concept and foster a stronger sense of national identity.
  • Promote collaboration among peers and related objectives by innovative means, encouraging a deeper understanding of the close relationship between the Mainland and Hong Kong.

Entry Requirements

  • The competition is divided into the following two levels of entry:
    • Primary(P) Primary 4 to Primary 6 ; and
    • Junior Secondary(JS) Secondary 1 to Secondary 3.
  • Participants can compete individually or in teams, with a maximum of members.
  • Team members can be from the same school or from schools under the same sponsoring body (but must participate in the same level of entry).
  • Participating teams must be recommended by their school teachers, and there is no limit on the number of teams or submissions per school.
  • All submitted works must be original creations.

How to register

  • The registration period is from 20 October 2025 to 19 December 2025. (Late submissions will not be accepted.)
  • All registrations must be submitted by schools. Once submitted, the entries cannot be modified or re-submitted.
  • For registration with more than 30 teams or members from different schools, please email the student information to evan.fan@hkecl.net for registration.
  • Participating schools must upload the competition entry through the provided link from 3 December 2025 to 7 January 2026, before 5 pm.
  • The date and time recorded on the system will be the official submission time. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Project Requirement

Preliminary Round

Each participating team must submit the following items:

 

1. Application Introduction (Chinese only, Below 300 words)

Must be submitted in PDF format, including (but not limited to):

  • App name
  • Main functions/features

2. Project Presentation

Must be submitted as a PowerPoint file (PPT or PPTX), including (but not limited to):

  • Cover page (project name, theme, school name, team member list)
  • Concept behind the project
  • Target users
  • Screenshots, sketches, and description
  • How the app works
  • How the app enhances users’ national identity

 

Final Round

Shortlisted teams must attend a 15-minute online interview for judging on 14 March 2026.

Judging Criteria​

The judges will evaluate the submissions based on criteria such as creativity, content, presentation, and practicality.

Awards​

  • Each participant will be awarded a certificate.

  • In each level, Champion, First Runner-up, Second Runner-up and Merit (5 for each level) will be awarded.

  • “The Most Innovative Award”, “The Most Profound Content Award” and “The Best Presentation Award” will also be award in each level.

  • The top ten schools with the highest participation in each level will be awarded the “Active Participation School Award”, while the school with the highest overall participation will receive the “National Star of Stars” award in recognition.

National Identity Mobile App Design Competition 2025/26 is one of the projects under the EdCity PICCKS Student Scheme. Participation in this competition is considered automatic enrolment in the PICCKS Student Scheme.
