One of Asia’s biggest sporting events begins tomorrow! The 20th Asian Games opened in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya, Japan, on 19 September this year. During the Games, athletes from different countries and regions across Asia will come together to compete in a wide range of sports and challenge themselves. The Hong Kong, China Delegation is among them, taking part in different events and showcasing the results of many hours of dedicated training.
The Asian Games not only bring us exciting competitions, but also allow us to see how much effort the athletes have put in. Every smooth movement is the result of countless hours of practice. Even if the athletes do not win a competition, they will adjust their form, refine their techniques and continue working hard for the next competition.
As you watch the competitions, notice how the athletes demonstrate Sportsmanship (S), which is also one of the learning attributes in the PICCKS Student Scheme:
We may be students rather than professional athletes, but we can still put sportsmanship into practice in our daily lives. Learning new things, practising a musical instrument, taking part in a competition and even completing a difficult piece of homework all require patience and perseverance. When faced with difficulties, we can follow the athletes’ example by taking on challenges and striving for excellence.
In addition to Sportsmanship (S), the PICCKS Student Scheme features five other learning attributes: Positive Attitudes and Values (P), Innovation and Creativity (I), Communication and Collaboration (C), Citizenship (C), and Knowledge and Skills (K). The scheme will soon launch a series of sports activities, giving students opportunities to demonstrate different learning attributes as they take part and become better versions of themselves. If you are interested in joining a range of exciting activities and challenging yourself, remember to check the EdCity PICCKS Student Scheme website for the latest updates!
This year’s Asian Games feature a wide variety of sports, including swimming, fencing and badminton. Which event are you most excited to watch? Look out for the Hong Kong, China athletes and cheer them on. As you enjoy the competitions, take a moment to appreciate their sportsmanship too!
