National Identity Mobile App Design Competition
Objectives:
To support the Education Bureau’s work in promoting a better understanding to our nation, Hong Kong Education City is organising the ‘National Identity (NI) Mobile App Design Competition’ from January to July 2024 to offer a multitude of opportunities for students to:
- explore the innovative technology and attempt integrating it with national elements, thereby experiencing the development of our nation;
- deepen the understanding towards the country, cultivate a national concept and foster a stronger sense of national identity;
- promote collaboration among peers and related objectives by innovative means, encouraging a deeper understanding on the close relationship between the Mainland and Hong Kong.
Divisions
Participating team can be from the following two divisions
- Primary Division: Primary 4 to 6; and
- Secondary Division: Secondary 1 to 4
Registration Requirements
- Participants must enroll for the competition as a team of two to six students from the same school. Each student can join only one team.
- Participating teams must be nominated by their school, and each school can nominate a maximum of five teams submitting a total of five entries.
- Each participating team must be led by one to two teachers from their school.
- All entries must be original and not be published on other occasions before.
Learning Journey
Participating teams can select one of the following themes in designing the mobile app.
Theme
Historical and Natural Landscapes
- Motivating students to learn and appreciate the history marvels and picturesque landscapes of China, and cultivating their love and care to the nation.
- Sports and Arts
- Encouraging students to present China’s sports and arts development, and nurturing their appreciation towards the achievements of sports and arts of their nation.
- Cultural Heritage
- Promoting the transmission of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, and creating innovative ways to revitalise and celebrate the nation’s rich cultural legacy.
Technological and Astronomical Achievements
- Connecting the nation’s technological achievements with our everyday life, and enhancing our sense of national identity by leveraging new technology.
- Virtues and Customs
- Encouraging students to respect and take part in the nation’s traditional virtues by engaging students through innovative means.
- Others
- For example, incorporating the five themes as above to promote learning the development from a multitude of perspectives.
All entries MUST entail the following:
- Selected theme
- Design concept of the mobile app
- Details of operation (demonstration of its practicality, resources adopted, etc.)
- How the design corresponds to the theme selected
- How the mobile app promotes the sense of national identity of the users
- Executive Summary
Entries can be submitted by ONE of the following formats:
- PowerPoint Presentation
- Introductory Video (Format: mp4) (length: more than 3 minutes)
- Introductory Proposal (Format: Word)
- Mobile App
Assessment Criteria
The judges will assess the entries by their creativity, content, message delivery, practicability, etc.

Award:
- All participants will be awarded a Participation Certificate.
- Each division will have a Champion, a 1st Runner-up, a Second Runner-up and seven Merits. ‘The Most Innovative Award’, ‘The Most Profound Content Award’ and ‘The Best Presentation Award’ will also be available in each division.
- Based on the participation rate of the schools, ‘Active Participation Award’ will be awarded.

Registration Procedures:
- All registration form must be submitted by the school.
- Schools can nominate teams by submitting the filled registration form by fax to 2624 1088 or email to mansonli@hkecl.net. Schools are also welcome to log in with their EdCity Teacher or Admin account and complete the online registration form available on the competition webpage.
- The registration deadline is 5:00pm on 29 February 2024 (Thursday). Late submissions will not be accepted.
- Successful registration will be notified by means of a confirmation email.
- Participating schools are required to upload their entries through the submission link on of before 5:00pm of 17 April 2024 (Wednesday). The time and date indicated on the Organiser’s server will be used as marking the entry submission time. Late submissions will not be accepted.
- Entries cannot be edited or replaced upon submission.
Terms & Conditions:
By enrolling for this competition, the participating students, teachers and school indicate to accept and warrant that:
- All the personal information, except the name and school of the registrants, will be used exclusively for the competition. Information involved will be kept confidential and disposed of half a year after the competition.
- By submitting an entry, the participating students, teachers and school authorise the copyright of the entry to the Organiser.
- By submitting an entry, no further edits concerning the content or the participant information are allowed. The entry submitted will not be returned to the participating team.
- Decision by the Judging Panel shall be the final assessment results.
- The content of the entry should not include obscene, abusive, violent, religious, political, defamatory, or other inappropriate content.
- By submitting an entry, the participating students, teachers and school warrant that the entry infringes neither any intellectual property rights of any third parties, nor legislation (including but not limited to the National Flag and National Emblem Ordinance, National Anthem Ordinance, The National Security Law, and Regional Flag and Regional Emblem Ordinance). Any disputes arising or infringement of law will be borne by the participating students, teachers and school, and the Organiser shall have no liability towards such disputes or offence.
- Awardees must attend the Prize Presentation Ceremony and receive their award in the afternoon of 28 June 2024 (Friday).
- The Organiser reserves the right to, including but not limited to, amend the Rules & Regulations, suspend or end the competition, disqualify any participants without prior notice. Changes will be announced on the competition webpage.
